Cleveland Browns WR Mohamed Massaquoi out with concussion, faces season exit – NFL News
It was a disappointing start, and also probably the end, to the 2012 season campaign for Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi who while returning for the first time to squad for preseason opening game against the Detroit Lions suffered on Friday
suffered another concussion – an injury that has cost him substantial parts of the last few seasons since joining the pro league in 2009.
The player was inflicted on with the head injury on receiving very first throw from Browns’ rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, which later coach Pat Shurmur confirmed is a concussion and will require a significant amount of time for recovery. Although the
coach did not elaborate if it was a season-ending scare, there is a fear that the season might well be over the WR.
It is another serious setback to Mohamed’s career progression. He has already sat out most parts of last two seasons with concussion symptoms since suffering the injury in 2010 as a result of a brutal hit from Pittsburgh Steelers’ daring linebacker James
Harrison. James is well known for roughing up quarterbacks and other players.
He has committed the same violation for a number of times in a period of two seasons, and has received hefty fines as an outcome of those hits.
He is the only player to have been suspended for a game over his hit on Browns’ QB Colt McCoy last season, which resulted in the head injury, ousting the QB for a considerable time. As many as three Browns players have so far become victims of Harrison’s
head hits.
One of these hits has pushed back Mohamed’s career growth now. The most fearing aspect is that the player is on the risk of facing post-career long-term problems as faced by many other former National Football League (NFL) players.
Meanwhile, Browns have not speculated a possible timeframe for return of Mohamed from the injury. The team nevertheless is disappointed with the outcome of the first game as far as the WR’s injury is concerned.
