Cleveland Browns aim deals for all rookies forthwith, landed contracts to 8 draft players-NFL News
The Cleveland Browns have agreed terms of the deals with eight rookie players while said to have been working on contracts for rest of the players, who have been drafted by the side off the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to
28.
Browns have inducted into the side as many as 11 players at different positions during this year’s draft. This includes the overall third-rated quarterback, Brandon Weeden.
As of Saturday, May 12, the team said to have signed deals with eight draft players. Those who are assigned to the new contracts are defensive lineman, Billy Winn, linebacker, James-Michael, defensive lineman, John Hughes and offensive lineman, Mitchell
Schwartz.
Other players include offensive lineman, Ryan Miller, defensive back, Trevin Wade and defensive back, Brad Smelley.
Terms of either of these players’ deals have not been made public. This includes their respective values and tenures.
Agents of the rest of the players are said to have been working on the new deals for their clients with the team.
The players who are yet to be handed over the new contracts are linebacker, Emmanuel Acho, running back, Trent Richardson and quarterback, Weeden.
Browns have already organised a rookie minicamp where the new arrivals have been introduced to the playbook of the team, their facilities and setup.
The particular player to note was Weeden, who will be playing with Colt McCoy, the regular QB with them.
Although there is a strong indication that Weeden will be given the starting role quarterback straightaway, in front of McCoy, who has been starting for the team regularly in the past, the team has denied weighing such a move.
Browns’ head coach, Pat Shurmur, has clearly indicated that Weeden first will have to prove himself worthy for the role before being considered for it.
Apparently, Weeden himself is happy over playing at any position that the team chooses for him, even if he is made limited to a backup role.
Away from those worries, he remains upbeat about prospects of playing the professional league from Browns side for the first time.
