Cleveland Browns anticipate early recovery of RB Trent Richardson – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns have hoped for a speedy recovery of rookie running back Trent Richardson from an arthroscopic surgery on his knee performed on Thursday, expecting him back in the squad by regular season campaign that begins next month
(September).
Browns issued an official statement to confirm the procedure done by Dr. James Andrews, which the team claims is a “routine arthroscopic” surgery, and said that the player should be able to recover in a couple of weeks. He will be in the
squad before start of the regular season, it said.
Coach Pat Shurmur said:
"We anticipate that Trent will make a speedy recovery, and we are hopeful that he will be ready for our Week One game against Philadelphia."
Trent had reported a sore knee last week. An MRI scan confirmed that the player had a ‘hang nail particle’, which had caused the soreness. Another evaluation from Dr Andrews pinpointed the need for removal of the particle through an arthroscopic
surgery.
According to Browns, Trent has been carrying the problem since his college league days, but now all of sudden it started bothering him again. The player’s knee developed soreness as a result of the extensive workout at training camp, pushing
him on the sidelines for the rest of the camp and preseason.
Although it is not a good start that Trent had expected to his pro career stint, both the player and team insist it is just a minor problem and that the player should be fine and join the squad in the near future.
The RB had earlier faced a delay in signing his rookie deal due to a controversy over offset language, but the situation did not take an ugly turn or prolonged. He is given a four-year $20.5 million contract.
Richardson had an impressive camp albeit suffering the injury scare in its latter part. Browns have higher hopes out of the first appearance of the RB. He is a crucial part of the team’s overall offensive strategy. The team has already
selected his rookie teammate, quarterback Brandon Weeden, as their next offence leader. He is preferred over incumbent QB Colt McCoy.
