Cleveland Browns back Colt McCoy’s return to starting position next NFL season-NFL News
The uncertainty around the future of Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, is now clear with the statement from the president, Mike Holmgren, that he is going to come back into 2012 National Football League (NFL) season as their number
one quarterback.
Browns were in a fix over their choice to give the starting role to McCoy next year for reasons that they had been pursuing his replacement in form of the top draft pick, Robert Griffin III, and that Colt McCoy’s last year’s performance
had remained in significant.
With the opportunity of reaching a deal with the draft eligibles, the St. Louis Rams, going to the Washington Redskins, Browns are done with their chances for trade of the top draft player.
Now the president is said to be happy over their quarterback situation and backed McCoy for the starting position next season.
The official was reported to have phoned the player and offered his support for his return from concussion, which he had suffered in the later part of the last NFL season.
Mike said:
"I just wanted to remind him there’s been a lot spoken and a lot written about our situation and other situations around the league, quite frankly. There’s a lot mentioned about the draft and potentially what we’re going to do. And all
he can really control is what he does. All he can really do is become the best player he can be and try and block out all of the rest of the stuff."
According to the president, the player is upbeat about return to the squad next season. He has responded well to his call and remains on the course to rejoin the team, he said.
McCoy suffered the head injury in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers into week 14th of the past season and since then is in the recovery phase.
No one from Browns’ management has updated about the recovery phase since then, and now the president’s statement makes his come back certain.
Browns finished past season with 4-12 record and according to the head coach, Pat Shurmur, they are aiming to improve from the level next season.
Both the president and the head coach did not offer any comment on the chances of McCoy’s return to the starting position throughout his recovery phase.
The player himself is said to be uncertain about the future prospects and apparently waited for an official confirmation from the management regarding his return as the starting quarterback.
Some reports also hinted that the management was weighing options to bring in a replacement at the number one spot. The draft recruitment was seen to be competitive choice for them.
