Cleveland Browns bank on offensive coach Brad Childress in hopes of bolstering attack – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns are banking on their newly hired offensive coach, Brad Childress, in hopes of turning around their attack to be one of the bests in the National Football League (NFL).
Childress has recently been taken on board by Browns’ management to coach the team’s offence, which is led by their quarterback, Colt McCoy, and their president, Mike Holmgren, says "Brad's an outstanding coach," hoping to improve their attack line in the
future.
He said:
"I've known him a long time. I thought he did a really great job in Minnesota in an unusual set of circumstances at the end. He came close to going to the Super Bowl. He's an excellent football coach, a very bright guy, knows how to coach quarterbacks. He's
a tough guy, he demands a lot and I think it was a great hire for Pat (Shurmur)."
Browns' performance has improved since reinstalling of the team in 1999 by the NFL, but they are still far below the mark and it is per this perspective that they are aiming to bolster their offence, which at the moment ranks at 30th position
on average per yard on the league.
One of their problems behind their dismal offensive show-off is the frequent injuries to their players.
Their star quarterback, McCoy, missed the last three games of the past season due to a concussion, after being sidelined earlier in the season, as well.
It is not clear if the player is fit and holds a chance of returning to the team next season, especially given the reasons that the head injuries take more time for healing and recovery.
The team management has not come up with their strategy about seeking a possible alternative to McCoy, if he is unable to show up for the next season. They still hope he will be fit and back to their side.
Browns meanwhile are confident that Brad hiring will turn around things for them and develop their attack line to improve their overall offensive rankings on the league’s points table.
The team has finished the 2011 NFL regular season with the record of four wins and 12 losses (4-12), a rather insignificant performance, which left them nowhere closer to qualifying for the second round.
Playing in the second round of the league could obviously be the target for the Cleveland Browns that they are plotting their new offensive coach signing for.
Childress has all the backing of the team management and head coach, Pat Shurmur, and he will have to prove his hiring by bringing about a visible improvement in their attack when they show up to play next season.
He will be working with the QB, Colt McCoy, if he is able to play again for them in the future. He might as well have a new draft quarterback if the team decides to signing one off the draft season in April this year, which they fully qualify for.
