Cleveland Browns beat Kansas City Chiefs 30-7 to better record at 5-8 in AFC North – NFL Recap
A comprehensive 30-7 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday (Dec. 09) has shown that the Cleveland Browns are definite winners of four-five games in a season at least, although this season they have done it with three more games still to go in the
season.
It is a sort of turnaround after the team made a poor start to the season and then went to lose some games. At one stage it did not appear if they would be able to win even a couple of games in the entire season. Now, on the contrary, they have three straight.
Although the amount of criticism is still very high on quarterback Brandon Weeden, he has helped the side to pull off some unexpected victories, much to the surprise of their own bosses.
It was probably running back Trent Richardson’s day, as he pulled off some of difficult short-yarder touchdowns to help the Browns walk over the Chiefs, who too are struggling in the season.
Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn said:
"It is going to be with some guys the rest of their lives. But it was not a distraction because we live to play football. We just didn't play an all-around football game like we did last week."
Although the Browns (5-8) are nowhere closer to make the playoffs, their effort is worth consideration in front of the new setup, given new owner Jimmy Haslam has already mandated the new chief executive officer (CEO) rebuilding of the team.
Coach Pat Shurmur is particularly under pressure, as he had taken the task of leading the team to a turnaround.
Shurmur must be pleased with the team effort versus the Chiefs and in a pair of games before that. Also, the team has slightly moved forward from the previous year’s level of 4-12. If they manage to pull off victories in another couple of games, it will
be a good effort and there is a possibility that the coach might be retained for a longer run.
A particular fact that the owner has acknowledged is the Browns are a younger side, with as many as 15 rookies in the side. If some investment is made or these players are given time to learn the team can reach new heights.
Interestingly, the Browns have changed about 16 quarterbacks in last 13 years, yet they have failed to produce better results. They might perform better by allowing more time to young players.
