Cleveland Browns’ coach Pat Shurmur backs QB Brandon Weeden as offence leader – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ coach Pat Shurmur has backed offence leader quarterback Brandon Weeden in spite of another failing by the rookie, which the player said was very much frustrating for him.
Pat’s vote of confidence has come after the QB failed to impress the team with his below-the-mark performance in the game versus the Baltimore Ravens.
The official said:
"I do believe in him. He is our guy. It's not going to be perfect. It's not going to be perfect all the time."
Weeden himself said to be frustrated over his form and added that he should be helping the team to stage more victories. With the season almost halfway through, the Browns have only a pair of wins to their credit, and the result has baffled everyone.
The offence leader said:
"I'm frustrated. We've won two games. We've been in games when we've had a chance to win and we've come up short too many times. As a quarterback, that's frustrating. I feel like I need to do more to help this team win."
Shurmur probably has come to the realisation that the team is again likely to end the season with four or five wins, no matter how much effort he puts in.
One aspect of the form shown by the Browns is reflective of inexperienced Browns side. As many as 15 rookies are part of the team, who in spite of energy and ambitions lack experience.
Further, Shurmur does not sound to be ambitious as such given the franchise has been sold to Jimmy Haslam, and there is complete uncertainty about his prospects. The current record does not help the cause of the coach to stay longer in Cleveland. It also
does not help the players and some other officials in the front office.
So apparently Shurmur does not want to experiment with the team with rash changes at this stage. He has persisted with Weeden as the offence leader, although has been criticised by the team followers and fans for sticking to Weeden as the starting player.
Also, all stakeholders are aware that after the new owner takes over the charge, a comprehensive overhauling of the team will be in the offing. So at the moment they are letting things progress in their own way.
