Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur snubs future questions – NFL News
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur has again snubbed questions about his career prospects with or without Browns given the team is going to be taken over by a new owner pretty soon.
Shurmur while sharply responding to media queries about his future with Browns, especially if he is worried about losing his job as a head coach of the team, said he was worried about doing his job, not saving it.
The coach said:
"Listen, I'm not worried about any of that. I'm not worried about saving, I'm worried about doing my job and that's it. I just want to do my job."
It is yet another time that the coach has declined to comment about his future. The question has gained more significance since arrival of new chief executive officer (CEO) Joe Banner in Cleveland. He has hinted at taking some significant measures as far
as rebuilding of the team is concerned, admitting some of those decisions might hurt certain officials.
Also, president Mike Holmgren, who hired Pat Shurmur in the first place, has already parted ways with the team. He is first official to leave the team since new owner Jimmy Haslam accepted the one billion dollar deal for the team, although his contract was
expired and he was not sacked as such.
Now Shurmur along with general manager Tom Heckert is the person might be weighing his options next, he certainly has not admitted it. The team’s performance has rebounded recently and three consecutive wins are staged by the Browns.
The team’s recent performance might not be enough as far as the coach’s prospects of staying in Cleveland are concerned. It will largely depend how the new owner plans rebuilding of his team, and whether he will have short or long-term objectives in his
mind. In case of long-term objectives, he might bring some new setup and this includes higher amount of investment in the quality of talent at all positions in all offices.
With three more games to go and the Browns with very limited playoff chances, the situation is expected to clearer soon after end of the regular season.
