Cleveland Browns crush Green Bay Packers 35-10 in Preseason game
The Green Bay Packers are rarely dominated by any side throughout the National Football League (NFL) season but on Friday one of these rare games took place as the Cleveland Browns dominated the Packers to win by a 35-10 score-line at Lambeau Field of all
places.
Even though this was just a preseason game such a huge defeat is still a big blow for Green Bay who once again showed their dependence on last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aaron Rodgers.
For the Packers this was a second preseason defeat and a wake-up call to the roster while the Browns confidence will go sky-high after such a convincing performance against Green Bay that too at their fearsome home stadium.
Speaking to the media after the defeat Green Bay Packers coach, Mike McCarthy did not look too happy at another loss in the preseason and said:
"It's something that needs to stop. There's no excuse for that."
Rodgers played for just a little while in the game and threw one touchdown after completing six passes from 11 attempts for a total of 59 yards.
The Packers are using this preseason to prepare Rodgers backup Graham Harrell who jumped to number two in the pecking order after the departure of Matt Flynn in the offseason.
Harrell though was shaky at best completing just half of his 24 attempted passes for a total of 100 yards and also threw two interceptions during the game one of which led to a Browns touchdown.
The Packers backup was not impressed with his performance and admitted as much to the press after the game.
He said:
"For one reason or another, just couldn't finish drives. It's unfortunate. We've got to be more consistent and finish drives when we have the opportunities to. I think that's kind of how it went."
On the other hand Cleveland’s starting quarterback, Brandon Weeden who joined the franchise this year as a first round draft pick delivered a satisfactory performance completing 12 of 20 passes for 118 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Speaking about his performance after the game the 28-year-old rookie from Oklahoma State University said that he is concentrating on reducing mistakes before going for the big plays.
He said:
"You've got to keep in mind last week was my first-ever start in the NFL, and it's just like a true freshman going into college and it's an even bigger jump coming up here. I didn't get down on myself about the way things went last week, and I just want
to go out and get better, and I did that."
The Packers took the lead in the first period as Rodgers who started the first period sent a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordy Nelson.
That scoring play would remain the Packers only touchdown during the game and the only scoring play till a fourth quarter field goal by Mason Crosby.
The Browns remained completely in control and scored four field goals on their way to a huge win over the 2010 Super Bowl winners.
