Cleveland Browns’ failure dents Mike Holmgren's otherwise successful league career – NFL News
Mike Holmgren is one of the most celebrated officials of the National Football League (NFL) for the level of success he has achieved in turning around many teams which before his joining as coach or manager were reduced to only few wins in a season, but
his luck has not worked to his favour during the ongoing tenure with the Cleveland Browns.
As Browns’ president, Holmgren is into third year but the team is as much struggling and reduced to four-five wins in a season as they were at the time of his arrival in Cleveland.
It is the same story this year. The team has played four games and is yet to taste a win and from Holmgren to coach Pat Shurmur, everyone is clueless about when they will do so.
The situation at the end may not be serving any good to Holmgren given the team has been sold to a new owner – the truck-stop magnate Jimmy Haslam – with prospects for the president appearing to be not that bright amid the continued slump.
The team is trying fourth quarterback under the tenure of Holmgren as president. Rookie Brandon Weeden is the latest offence leader who looks to be heading to failure this season.
With four games played so far, the rookie is struggling with some minor and some major but consistent issues without any help from coaches to overcome them. So while the team’s showing on the field remains poor, time seems running out for Holmgren, and may
well be for other officials.
Holmgren after being criticised for his alleged loathness to the team affairs over the past couple years had announced to increase his interaction with the media and team officials earlier this year.
It is probably too late for him now because that plan of all of sudden increased interest in the team affairs might have been acceptable and workable with Randy Lerner as the team’s owner but now the ball is in Haslam’s court who is yet to show his cards
as far as managerial affairs of his team are concerned.
