Cleveland Browns hope 2012 NFL Draft signings will help wins next season-NFL News
The Cleveland Browns have set the clear target of winning the National Football League (NFL) title this year and as a step towards achieving it they were straight to the need of fetching quality talent from this season’s draft, held from April 26 to 28,
2012.
Browns finished the 2011 season with a record of 4-12. It was also the first year of coach, Pat Shurmur, with the team.
Now both the coach and president, Mike Holmgren, are said to be clear in their intentions of considerably improving from the past year’s record.
The president said:
"We'd all like to see a big jump this year, that's our hope. We think that's possible. That's reasonable."
Some of the analysts who have been following their movement in the draft market closely are of the view that big positive change in Browns’ performance is possible.
They note that their new QB, Brandon Weeden, and running back, Trent Richardson, are capable of putting the franchise back on winning track.
In addition, the team stands benefiting the offence manifold if they stick with Colt McCoy as the quarterback, no matter at what position.
Browns have recently talked trade option for McCoy but then denied of making such a move. It looks that the player will be back and with a couple of years’ experience already under his belt, his performance could prove vital for the team.
One of the reasons that will motivate McCoy is that he had been through some tough time since ending of the past season.
He has remained on and off the team’s plans to seriously weigh his future at Cleveland and at occasions it looked certain that they will release him.
Also, with the latest injury scare, which happens to be concussion, the player knows he will have to work hard to retain his place with Browns or seek any suitor from elsewhere in the league.
According to the president:
"The quarterback play is so important to any team. And really in this business, your team is probably as good as how your quarterback plays and the play of that position."
So, the team certainly stands benefiting from both Weeden and McCoy on the offensive line and there is no reason why Browns should not make it to the playoffs, at least, this year. Going even beyond the second round is not impossible, either.
