Cleveland Browns interested in draft quarterback, Ryan Tannehill-NFL News
The Cleveland Browns are said to have remained open to options for an upgrade at the quarterback position in spite of backing Colt McCoy for the starting role next season.
One of the options before them is the draft quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, a college league player from Texas A&M.
Browns’ management is reported to have been exploring the opportunity of taking him on board during the draft season when it starts next month, April 2012.
A couple of media reports have quoted people privy to the development saying that the team’s officials have witnessed workout of the prospective QB at the recently held pro day, and are apparently impressed with his form and all the ratings.
Tannehill, who could not perform at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month, is seen progressing faster on the rating table as he continues to work out for different teams.
Browns are reported to have been monitoring the player’s progress closely and are for sure going to attempt his signing with overall fourth-round pick of this draft season.
The team has already lost an opportunity for reaching a deal with the St. Louis Rams for the overall no. 2 draft prize, who could be Baylor College’s QB, Robert Griffin III, also known as RG3.
That opportunity has gone to the Washington Redskins, leaving Browns’ management to be expressively content with their existing quarterback situation, with Colt McCoy at the starting line.
It is difficult to ascertain Browns’ chances for Tannehill’s signing, as it will depend on the player’s rating and ability of the team to match the offers from other teams.
If the team continues to stay at the number 4 position and is convinced with the player’s performance and other measureable indicators i.e. health and fitness, they will definitely try for his signing.
The management’s decision to explore an opportunity of bringing in a new quarterback is reportedly the result of their reservations about the performance of Colt McCoy.
Even though the team has backed him to be the QB no 1 next season, McCoy’s past performances have shown him to be well below the mark. This is one of the reasons that the Cleveland Browns have remained inconsistent in form and without
any significant achievement each season.
They were unlucky for not being able to negotiate a deal with the St. Louis Rams for overall number 2 draft pick, but now the talk around another prospective professional player Tannehill shows that the team is yet to be done with their
ambitions of new QB hiring.
Away from their efforts for draft pursuit, the management has confirmed McCoy’s return from concussion to re-join the squad in the preseason this year.
