Cleveland Browns just to begin reshuffling drive with CEO Joe Banner in charge – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ new chief executive officer (CEO) Joe Banner has formally started reshuffling drive, which will see some of the officials from front office and coaching department leaving the Browns unceremoniously.
Since the franchise has been sold, the market is abuzz with rumours and speculations that the new owner Jimmy Haslam will introduce cleansing drive and some of the decisions along the process might be rash that they do not please a number of officials.
Joe said of the process:
"Some people will fit and some people won't. I understand that for everybody here I kind of have their immediate future in my hands and I feel bad.”
He added:
"You don't really want to create that kind of stress for people. But there's no other way to do it. And in the end, we have to make whatever we think are the right decisions for the organization and hopefully do it in a fair and compassionate and transparent
way."
He said he had come with positive frame of mind about all the staff and although it is not going to be easy for him to take certain decisions, he has to take them at end of the day, no matter if someone feels hurt by them.
For example, he said to be open-minded about Coach Pat Shurmur, but did not elaborate if the official is in the line of fire along with some of his assistants. He also did not name any other official specifically but the process, which has just been kicked
off, is certainly going to make things more transparent and visible once it progresses.
Apparently, President Mike Holmgren and Pat Shurmur do not hold bright prospects as far as extension in their stay with Browns is concerned. Holmgren has already been rumoured to be in touch with a number of teams for a coaching role and he might move out
as quickly as possible, although he has denied those rumours.
Since the Browns are through one of their miserable seasons, the atmosphere does not appear to be conducive for the coach either. He just like Holmgren has kept his fingers crossed to see what happens to his fate.
