Cleveland Browns land deals to more rookies, adjust roster with cuts & additions-NFL News
The Cleveland Browns announced on Monday, May 14, to have further adjusted their roster, landing a deal to another rookie, who has recently been picked off the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, and cutting running back, Armond Smith.
Smith spent only a season with Browns after being inducted into the side as an undrafted free agent in 2011. His participation was limited to only three games, while he spent about 11 weeks on the practice squad of the team.
Apparently, no reason has been attributed to his release by the management but given their singing of 11 draft players, it looks that they have made the move to create some space to accommodate newcomers.
Browns agreed to terms of the deals with eight rookies, as confirmed by the team earlier and now with landing of a deal to another draft, only a pair of players is left to receive contracts from them.
Negotiations for deals of the remaining draft players are said to be underway. They might reach agreements with Browns anytime in near future.
The players who are yet to receive deals include quarterback, Brandon Weeden, who is the notable among all new arrivals in Cleveland.
Linebacker, Emmanuel Acho, the latest player to sign, has been elected by Browns in the six round of the 2012 NFL draft, which was held from April 26 to 28.
He had started 48 games for Texas in the American college league, before announcing to become pro from this year.
Meanwhile, Browns have placed linebacker, Andrew Sweat, on reserve/retired list. There is a concern he might be released by the team anytime before the start of the upcoming season.
Furthermore, Browns have signed another linebacker, JoJo Dickson, who was unable to find a team after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the start of the 2011 NFL season. He had been signed only a couple of months before the waiver.
Browns have also assigned a regular contract to rookie running back, Adonis Thomas. He had joined Browns’ rookie minicamp on past weekend on a trial basis.
