Cleveland Browns looking to hire offensive coach with next season in mind – NFL News
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur said on Wednesday that his side was looking to hire an offensive co-ordinator and there were quite a few potential candidates on their target list.
Shurmur was playing both roles, as a head coach and offensive assistant coach, and that had led to confusion and miscommunication in a couple of games ruining their chances for certain touchdowns.
However, the coach now aims to relieve his one role and potential hiring of his assistant is seen in this direction.
So far no one has emerged as the leading candidate for the role as Shurmur apparently kept the cards with the names of potential targets close to his chest.
Few reports have tipped Brad Childress, former Minnesota Vikings coach, to be in line for taking over the offensive coordination duties at the Browns.
There was some sort of confirmation of Childress being one of the targets by Shurmur as he said he had worked with him in the past and knows him ‘very well’.
"It's important that I get the best coordinator I can for us," Shurmur said. "I think that's one of the details that'll get worked out as we go through the process. I want to get the best guy I can. And if he's outstanding at calling plays, listen, I want
to win games, and so I'm going to get the guys in there that are going to help us do that."
Hiring of an assistant coach was the latest development on the Browns who the coach said were looking to reshuffle few positions while going into next football season.
He had earlier expressed his reservations over continuing to entrust the starting role to their quarterback Colt McCoy who is currently nursing his head injury.
His statement of a possible change at the position came despite that there is no confirmation yet if McCoy will be able to play football next season or at all in the future.
The coach went on to say that he also had discussions with their running back Peyton Hillis earlier in the week, which according to him went well.
With no confirmation from the coach if Hillis will play football for them next season the chances of his re-signing by the Browns hang in the balance.
Hillis is free agent at the moment and the Browns are yet to decide to re-sign him or let him go for sure.
