Cleveland Browns lose 3rd straight game as St. Louis Rams win intense encounter 13-12 – NFL Recap
St. Louis Rams barely managed to grab a 13-12 victory in an intense encounter on Game Week 10 in the regular season of the National Football League against the Cleveland Browns, awarding the hosts their third straight loss.
The sold out Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio was in for a shock near the end of the fourth period. Rams were leading Browns by a single point with the score precariously poised at 13-12. The home fans were in full voice
as their thirteen year veteran Place Kicker Phil Dawson lined up his final field goal attempt of the game at 22 yards with just 2 minutes left on the clock.
Long Snapper Ryan Pontbriand hiked the football back, it took a deflection off centre Alex Mack with the ball bouncing towards place holder Brad Maynard who did well to place it as Dawson ran up for the kick. But the precious few
seconds longer that it took for the ball to snap back to Maynard ruined the run of Dawson and he miss hit the shot which sailed just wide to the right of the crossbar stunning the home fans.
The Rams who seemed to have lost the encounter could not believe their luck and held on in the final few seconds to win the game by a single point.
"You leave with a helpless feeling. It's tough," Browns quarterback Colt McCoy said. "We should have won -- more than once. You kind of scratch your head and wonder, 'Where is all this bad luck coming from? Why?'
Rams running back Steven Jackson could not believe the lucky break his team got and later joked
"I thought this stuff only happened to the Rams," Jackson said. "I didn't think it happened to other teams."
The Rams who remain bottom of their National Football Conference West division got just their second victory this season for a 2-7 record. The unlucky Browns lost their third straight game to remain at the bottom of the American
Football Conference North Division with a 3-6 record.
The Browns have more things to worry about after this game as they remain unable to score a touchdown at home.
Brandon Lloyd scored the only touchdown of the game at 14:53 in the second quarter with a 7 yard run after collecting a pass from Rams Quarter Back Sam Bradford to make it 7-3. Phil Dawson scored two field goals in the second quarter
from 32 and 43 yards respectively with the first coming at 7:41 to peg back the Rams lead to one point and the second coming right at the death of the second quarter to make it 10-9 after Browns Place Kicker Josh Brown scored a 29 yard field goal with a minute
left in the second period.
Dawson gave the Browns the lead again in the third quarter with a field goal with just 33 seconds on the dial from 27 yards to make it 10-12.
As Josh Brown scored his second field goal of the night in the final quarter at 7:42 to make it 13-12 in favour of the Rams, the match became highly intense as the Rams held on to win after Dawson failed to convert the crucial
final kick of the match.
