Cleveland Browns new owner Jimmy Haslam reconsiders Jim Brown for a role – NFL News
Former Cleveland Browns Hall of Famer Jim Brown is in hopes of a role with the team once again, but under new owner Jimmy Haslam, after staying out of the side for two years on being snubbed by the outgoing owner Randy Lerner.
Lerner had removed Jim from the advisory role with the Browns and he remained out of contacts with the team for nearly two years until recently when he met the new owner and discussed prospects of involving in the team affairs once again.
Both sides are learnt to have some discussions on future of the Browns at a dinner meeting and agreed to work out a role for Jim with the team once again.
Following the meeting, Jim and Jimmy disclosed holding of the talk in respective statements, and although did not confirm reaching an agreement on what could be prospective contribution of the former to the team’s rebuilding, they said they will keep talking
on it.
Haslam said:
"Jim and I both agreed that it makes total sense for him to be involved with the Browns, and we both agreed it didn't make sense to rush into anything. We agreed to talk on an as-needed basis and get together at some to-be-determined time in the future.”
Jim Brown said of the meeting:
"We had a fantastic meeting from my point of view. Very special very insightful, very open. No trickery, just straight-out honesty. He's willing to learn, understand certain principles, done a lot of homework on a lot of individuals. It couldn't have been
a better meeting for me."
The Browns are currently struggling as a team to find their first win of the season and so far all talks by second-year coach Pat Shurmur and president Mike Holmgren of rebuilding have proved a mere lip service, as nothing much has changed for the team as
far as results are concerned.
Haslam is expected to formally take over the team later this year after clearing the regulatory hurdles and the change might also sweep away coaches and other officials from the front office. If Jim is back the changes can be expected to be rasher and across-the-board.
