Cleveland Browns not keen on James Jones’ deal, certainly not for Colt McCoy – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns are not interested in a trade agreement with the Green Bay Packers for veteran receiver, James Jones, in exchange of any of their players.
A report in a section of media has contradicted a number of earlier news claiming the team is keen on taking James and offering any of their players, and one guess was the incumbent quarterback, Colt McCoy.
Colt’s future in Cleveland has recently become uncertain given the team has backed rookie Brandon Weeden playing and growing at the starting position.
However, the team has not made it official if it is going to release the incumbent.
The player himself said to have not requested his release and apparently is adamant to surrender the leading role to the rookie without a fight.
Yet a number of reports claim that the team wants to part ways with the QB under a trade arrangement, instead of cutting him off the roster straightaway.
Many of those reports linked the Green Bay Packers to be the potential team, which Browns might seek to enter a trade deal with, most probably taking Jones for McCoy.
Those reports are not confirmed by any of the teams or other independent sources.
Further, the game punters do not see this arrangement happening, and even if it does, it will not be a viable option for Browns.
Nevertheless, the possibility of Browns deal with Packers for Jones in swap of any of their players, let alone McCoy, is over following the reports that the team has denied to be weighing such an option at present or for the future.
While Browns are yet to make McCoy available in the market through a trade or any other option, no team has emerged as a clear potential destination for the QB.
St. Louis Rams and a couple of other teams have recently been indicated to be potential destinations. Again, there is no independent backing of those claims.
The situation is set to be clearer by the training camp next month.
McCoy, in the meantime, is very much into competition with Weeden to retain his starting role.
