Cleveland Browns rookie QB Brandon Weeden hopes for starting role, awaits team’s nod-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback, Brandon Weeden, has spoken highly of his comfort and preparation to be on the starting line right away, irrespective of the fact that he does not have a clear assurance from the team yet.
Browns took Weeden on board in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28, 2012.
Since his arrival in Cleveland, there is a great hustle bustle within the team and commentators regarding Weeden’s chances to win the starting role.
Colt McCoy, who has recently rejoined the squad on recovery from a head injury, has been the starting quarterback for the team since the last two seasons, maintaining an overall record of 6-15 in both seasons.
McCoy has already been sounded a message from coach, Pat Shurmur, who himself has spent only a year as the head coach with Browns that there might be a change in his role, with the possibility of McCoy being pushed back at the No. 2 position.
Apparently, McCoy understands the gravity of the matter and, as the coach said, has shown willingness to accept the potential change.
With McCoy looking to be comfortable at the backup position, the management is yet to confirm if it is definite about giving Weeden the starting role.
Weeden, who is privy to the situation, is ready to accept the starting position straight away.
He said:
"I feel like I'm ready. I have a long way to go, but I feel like I've taken the right steps to get to where I can play at that level. If I'm asked to be the guy Day One, I'm going to do everything on my part to put our team in position to win games and score
points. I'm really anxious to get going and the season will be here before you know it."
A decision on the matter is very much awaited.
The delay is proving to be rather difficult for fans and probably for the players, especially McCoy, who has recently been in a phase of uncertainty about his future with Browns.
