Cleveland Browns rookie QB Brandon Weeden hopes to get deal by training camp despite recent delays
The talks between agent of rookie quarterback, Brandon Weeden, and Cleveland Browns’ managers have come to a brief halt over some differences on the guaranteed tenure of the rookie's deal.
Some sections of media have cited people privy to the process of negotiations saying the player is demanding all four years of his contract fully guaranteed but the team is willing to offer the first three.
Although the player has hoped the deal gets done before the training camp due to start late next month, the reports have reflected both sides to be less flexible at their ends.
Brandon is reported to win an $8.1 million, four-year contract from the team and he wants all those four years guaranteed. The managers are reluctant to accept his demand and the conflict of the opinion has temporarily put the negotiation
process on hold.
The QB has sounded himself to be not that worried about the matter, hoping to sign a contract with the team soon.
He said:
"It'll get done. We're working. It takes two sides, though.''
There is no clarification of the situation by the team so far. It is not clear what sort of solution both sides are aiming to reach, as mentioned by the player.
Weeden is another rookie QB whose deal has become a subject of controversy. Most recently, this year’s top draft prize, Andrew Luck, was reported to be through a similar circumstance over a difference on the endorsement terms of the contract.
He is yet to be signed by the Indianapolis Colts.
Weeden was selected among first 14 picks out of the 2012 NFL draft, who are yet to be given contracts by their respective teams.
Away from the deal controversy, Weeden is competing with the incumbent Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the starting role. He is most likely to be given the leading position at the start of the season.
Colt is the only main competitor in front of him and if he is let go elsewhere by the team, as is being speculated at the moment, Weeden should have it all clear for him as far as leading the team’s offence is concerned.
