Cleveland Browns’ rookie RB Trent Richardson avoids confrontation against legendary RB Jim Brown
Rookie running back, Trent Richardson, just cannot help avoid answering questions about Cleveland Browns’ former RB, Jim Brown, who in his one of earlier remarks labelled him an ordinary player, but the rookie has so far managed well to
control his emotions and handle the entire controversy with a mature approach.
Trent is fourth overall pick out of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, which according to Browns managers, was a right choice for them.
Jim, now 76 and one of the most successful RBs from the past, called Trent an ordinary player just before the draft, which prompted the prospective pro RB to come out with a determination to prove the critic wrong.
He has repeatedly been asked about Jim’s remarks since then and in spite of his apparent displeasure over the criticism, he has successfully avoided prolonging the controversy with contradictory or equally conflicting viewpoint.
Trent was again asked about the official at NFL Play 60 Youth Event this week, and to it he said:
"I've got big shoes to fill. I don't dislike Jim Brown for his comments on me. He's just pushing me to the limit. He's going to make sure I'm going to work and make sure he can get everything he can out of me as far as me being in Cleveland.”
He added:
“I'd like to meet him. Just to be in his presence, it's going to be an honour. He's an icon, he's a legend."
In his latest comments Richardson has sounded to be frustrated over his criticism by Jim, but even his colleagues know he is less likely to overreact to the situation.
Browns’ rookie quarterback, Brandon Weeden, has called Richardson a thick skin, least likely to be worried about Jim’s talk.
Brandon said Jim Brown is one of the greatest RBs ever played with the Cleveland Browns and that he had all the rights to criticise Richardson, adding he knows it will not worry Richardson at all.
President, Mike Holmgren, is another member of Browns team who had come under fire from the legendary Brown over the so-called disassociation with the team matters.
He remarked the official’s distance from the team affairs as showing a lack of commitment towards it. Most recently, Holmgren has offered to involve himself in the team affairs more actively, especially to interact with media frequently.
