Cleveland Browns safety Ray Ventrone accuses Baltimore Ravens offence of plying ‘dirty’ tactics
Cleveland Browns safety Ray Ventrone has accused Baltimore Ravens offensive line of plying some unnecessary tactics against their defence in the last game which resulted in a higher number of injuries to their players but declined going into specifics, saying
he did not want to be a whistle blower.
The Ravens won that game 23-16 and the Browns side ended up with safety Usama Young and cornerback Tashaun Gipson suffering knee injuries, while safety T.J. Ward hurt his thumb, and now Ray said it was due to Ravens’ players going ‘dirty’ in the game.
The Safety said:
"I know that they were playing dirty on offense. Watch the film, man. There was some dirty stuff going on. There was just stuff that was happening after the play, during the play. There was some unnecessary stuff that was happening to our defensive backs
most specifically."
He added:
"I don't want to get into specifics just `cause I don't want to be the guy to stir the pot. But I'm just saying I think they were doing a lot of extracurricular stuff."
The rivalry of Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns is well known in the American Football Conference (AFC) North division but it is one of rare occasions that the Ravens offence has been labelled going bully.
Generally, it is the defence that roughs up the offensive players with possibility of injuries as serious as concussions. For example, Ravens safety Ed Reed has been fined by the National Football League (NFL) for hitting a New England Patriots wide receiver.
Nevertheless, the Browns safety’s claim seems to be credible as he has invited the league office to see the video evidence of what he says ‘extracurricular’ activities of the opposition’s offensive line. Since he has not specified exact nature of the tactics
it is not clear if the league will consider the claim stands a chance for an investigation.
Another issue here is that Ray has not named any player from the Ravens offence who has specifically targeted Browns’ player. So while the Browns safety has attempted to lodge a serious complaint, he lacks details.
