Cleveland Browns target rare win versus Washington Redskins – NFL News
The Cleveland Browns stand a chance to pull off another surprise victory versus the Washington Redskins and the possible absence of quarterback Robert Griffin III due to an injury scare provides the hosts even a better opportunity to upset the visitors this
Sunday (Dec. 16).
After having stayed at bottom of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division, the Browns have taken their critics and onlooker by surprise to win three straight games, and if they manage a win versus the Redskins, it should come ever harder on
the analysts who had written them off only a few games earlier.
Veteran place kicker Phil Dawson said:
"It's all kind of coming together. We're just doing all the little things right now. Guys are hungry to come back to work every day. There's some energy around here that I haven't felt. This is all good."
The performance of running back Trent Richardson is going to be crucial to the Browns’ victory chance, and although the RB has been in his best form, his output in last pair of games is not up to an acceptable or winnable level.
He himself says of the situation:
"I don't want to override my boundaries with, 'We're the best team,' or say stuff like that, but we're putting something together here and it's going to be beautiful. We haven't arrived yet, but we're just trying to win to get to the next level and be an
elite team."
If Griffin is going to be part of the Washington side this weekend, it will be rather difficult for the Browns to win against the visitors, but certainly not impossible.
Coach Pat Shurmur has backed quarterback Brandon Weeden to give his best. Although the offence leader is well capable of putting up a strong showdown, inconsistency is a major issue that he has been confronting him throughout the season.
A particular area that Brandon has to work on is the repeated mistakes such as fumbles and interceptions. With more accuracy in throws he can avoid the interceptions. Also, the Browns need to beef up security around him. So far the offence leader has managed
well to get away with any serious injury scares but he often has been exposed open in front of the oppositions’ defences.
Browns’ defence must also come up with a strategy to stop Griffin III, provided he plays. It depends on how coach Pat Shurmur ploys his scheme on the day. He nevertheless knows that win is more important for him than any other member of the team, since the
coach’s performance has closely been monitored by the newly arrived chief executive officer (CEO) Joe Banner, and will determine his prospects as a coach with the Browns.
