Cleveland Browns tight end Ben Watson aims return after declaring his recovery from concussion – NFL News
Two months into his head injury, Cleveland Browns’ tight end, Ben Watson, says he feels fine, fit and ready to play for his side again, which will now only be possible in the next season of the National Football League (NFL), which begins in September this
year (2012).
This is one of the rare good news for Browns, who already have on their hands the lingering doubts around the recovery and return of their quarterback, Colt McCoy.
He is out of the team due to the same injury since their 13th game, played against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 14 of the 2011 NFL season.
Watson had suffered a concussion and as a result missed a number of games in the season before being placed on the injured reserves list (IR) by the team’s management.
The latest was his third concussion in 14 months, and his chances of recovery to his previous health and fitness seemed impossible to many.
The player has now surprised them by speaking up that he is fully fit and ready to play professional football again when his team’s shows up for the next season.
"I'm great. Three or four days after the last incident, I felt normal," Watson said. "With three games left, they just erred on the side of caution and decided to end the season for me. You hate for that to happen, but that's why the doctors are in place.
As far as lingering symptoms, I didn't have anything. I know some guys have headaches for weeks. That wasn't my scenario, thankfully. So hopefully, it was just a bad luck year."
Watson received the head injury in the same game, against Steelers, Browns’ QB, Colt McCoy, was hit by their opponent’s linebacker, James Harrison. His injury was apparently overshadowed by the controversial handling of McCoy’s concussion by his team’s medical
staff.
McCoy was let to resume his game without being inspected for concussion on the sidelines by the team’s coaching and medical staff. The incident led to a serious controversy and prompted a joint review of Browns’ facilities at their headquarters at the Cleveland
by the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA).
Along with McCoy, Watson too missed last three games of the season and after having spent about two months in recovery, the player is now sure that he is fully healthy and fit to play football again.
There is no comment from his team on his assurance of being able to play again, which could be expected some time later in the season if they are interested to have him back to their active roster. He will certainly need to have confirmation on his removal
from the IR list.
