Cleveland Browns uncertain who is their quarterback no 1. next season – NFL News
Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy is likely to lose his starting position at the Browns next season as the side is uncertain yet who will be their quarterback no. 1 next season.
McCoy who suffered concussion in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers about three weeks to closing of the regular season of the National Football League (NFL) is already uncertain for timely recovery and return next year.
He however faced another bad news on his chances to remain as the quarter no. 1 with the Browns in the season 2012 as the coach Pat Shurmur said he will not stick to the player for the starting role.
The coach comments were in contradiction with his assurance that McCoy has developed his level of game in the outgoing season and that he holds the prospects to perform better at the quarterback position.
"As we go forward with Colt, I feel like he's done some really good things," Shurmur said Tuesday at his season-ending news conference. "Get him back healthy, get him in an offseason where he has a chance to develop. ... I expect Colt will improve, just
as I expect (backup quarterback) Seneca (Wallace) will improve and whoever the quarterbacks are here. That can be said for all positions. The best quarterback will play when we start the season."
Shurmur did not specify if a player was on their radar to be their starter for the next season. This he said will be clear next season.
Overall, the season finished at 4-9 points for Colt McCoy as a starter. He was unavailable for last three games of the season due to concussion.
McCoy suffered the head injury as a result of a helmet-to-helmet hit from the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison in their game number 13 and is still out nursing his injury.
He was ruled out straight for rest of the season for his injury. However, there are fears that his injury might prove to be a career-ending one for him
Despite that there is no confirmation of a timeline of his recovery Colt McCoy has expressed optimism that he will be fit and ready to rejoin his team next year.
Pat Shurmur meanwhile stopped short of disclosing his team plans in the offseason and a possible reshuffling of the side with hiring firing. He did not speak either about the team plans of recruiting new draft pick in draft season beginning in April this
year.
