Cavaliers' Antawn Jamison out due to sore knee
The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that forward Antawn Jamison was taken out of practice on Monday. The team held out Jamison as a precaution due to soreness in
his left knee.
Jamison did not play in the Cavaliers' Tuesday match against the Atlanta Hawks. The Cavaliers lost the game with a score of 100-88. Atlanta Hawks centre Al Horford
produced a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Early struggles
Jamison struggled at the start of this season. In the Cavaliers' season opener against the Boston Celtics, Jamison only contributed four points and four rebounds
in a 98-87 win. He is averaging only 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds through Cleveland's first three games.
In an interview with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jamison said, "So far, as a whole, this season has been frustrating -- as a team and as an individual... But this
is when you stay positive, continue to work knowing that you're doing the right things and hopefully you get a breakthrough on both parts."
Jamison was acquired from the Washington Wizards in a three-way, mid-season trade earlier this year. He averaged 18.7 points and 8.4 rebounds last season, about
half of which he spent playing alongside LeBron James.
With the departure of James to the Miami Heat, Jamison was expected to take on most of the team's scoring load. However, Cleveland coach Byron Scott has opted to
start J.J. Hickson at power forward, with Jamison coming off the bench as the sixth man.
Career highlights
Jamison is a two-time All-Star who has averaged 19.8 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 45.6 percent from the field in 12 seasons as a pro. In the 2003-04 season,
he was named as the Sixth Man of the Year while playing with the Dallas Mavericks. That season, he averaged 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have yet to announce a return date for the former North Carolina standout.
