Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets win: NBA Tuesday Roundup– (Part 1)
Cleveland Cavaliers thrash the Miami Heat 102-90
Despite another chivalrous effort from LeBron James, the Miami Heat slipped to a 102-90 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night. The victory snapped Miami’s five-game winning streak.
J.J. Hickson scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Cleveland. Anthony Parker added 20 points, while centre Ryan Hollins chipped in with 13 points for the Cavaliers, who won only their 10th home game of the season.
Heat small-forward James once again rocked Akron, returning after almost four months since his last visit. James notched a triple-double with a game-high 27 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for Miami.
James said that the crowd at Cleveland was amazing as usual. He said, "Even when I played here, the atmosphere was great. The fans are unbelievable -- I've always said that -- and it was great for their team tonight."
Guard Dwyane Wade had 24 points and six assists while Mike Bibby ended with 23 points in the defeat.
Both teams scored 24 points each in the first quarter but Cleveland responded with a 6-0 run early in the second quarter to take a 30-24 lead for good. The Cavaliers continued to play a solid game and carried a 53-42 advantage into the locker room.
Miami made a marginal comeback and went on a 15-0 run in the last two minutes of the third quarter to cut the gap to five heading to the fourth. The Cavaliers quickly turned things around with a 20-13 run to take a 95-83 lead with less than three minutes
to go in the final stanza.
Miami tried to spark a comeback in the closing minutes but Cleveland made enough free throws to put the game away, getting some sweet revenge against King James.
Houston Rockets beat New Jersey Nets 112-87
The Houston Rockets defeated the New Jersey Nets 112-87 at Prudential Centre on Tuesday night. With this victory, the Rockets are just two games behind the Memphis Grizzlies, who are in eighth position in the Western Conference standings.
Houston guard Kevin Martin scored 20 points while Kyle Lowry finished with 16 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in the victory. Forward Patrick Patterson and guard Goran Dragic had 13 points apiece for the Rockets, who have won seven of their last 10
games.
Centre Brook Lopez registered a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Kris Humphries grabbed 13 rebounds in the defeat. Jordan Farmar had 12 points and seven rebounds and Sasha Vujacic posted 11 points for the Nets, who lost their third straight
game.
The Rockets went on a 15-2 run midway through the first quarter to take a 34-21 lead after 12 minutes. In addition to that, Lowry scored 16 of his points in the first half, as Houston extended their lead to 61-43 at half time.
Houston’s defence was stingy in the third quarter and they carried an 83-63 advantage into the final stanza. The Rockets continued their hot shooting in the fourth quarter and outscored New Jersey 29-24 to seal 17th victory of the season on the
road.
