Cleveland Cavaliers appoint Wes Wilcox as general manger of their NBA D-League franchise
The Cleveland Cavaliers have assigned another responsibility to Wes Wilcox, who is already as the team Director of Player Personnel in Cleveland.
Now, he will be playing a different role as a general manger in Cleveland’s newly acquired NBA Development league franchise in Canton, Ohio. The Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant officially announced his appointment as a general manger.
Grant said, “Having Wes in this role is another reflection of the synergy and connectivity that owning and operating our own D-League team in Canton provides. As Wes has been an integral member of our staff for the past eight years, it enhances the opportunity for us to extend our team and organizational culture further into the player development process. Wes has been intricately involved in the D League evolution over the last several years and the Canton franchise has already and will continue to, greatly benefit from his knowledge and experience.”
The executive will run both functions in parallel. Although, he will be also taking care of the Cleveland Cavaliers as the director of player personnel, but his major focus will be to develop the D- League franchise in Canton, Ohio. Wilcox will be in charge of the operations activities.
Wilcox expressed his jubilation on being given the huge responsibility, one which will help him grow as a leader and a professional. He thanked the Cavaliers management for their trust for the opportunity.
After coming in 2003, Wilcox improved massively. He played a very vital role in bringing big name players into the Cavaliers’ roster. He worked with the team as an advance scout for almost four seasons. His performance as a team scout brought him very close to the Cavaliers management and made him a significant part of the Cavaliers basketball operations.
The Cavaliers’ management decided to give him another duty when he became a team’s college and pro personnel scout. He served at that post for three years and eventually took over as the Cavaliers’ team director of player personnel in 2010. Wes Wilcox had also worked with New Orleans Hornets in the past.
