Cleveland Cavaliers break 10-game losing streak after thrashing New York Knicks in a 109-102 stampede
Cavaliers coach Byron Scott could not contain his joy as he watched his team breaking its 10-game losing streak and thrashing down the New York Knicks to an assertive loss. Quicken Loans Arena was hustling with sales as more than 20,000 tickets were sold
to 20562 basketball fans who thoroughly enjoyed the game for more than two hours.
Scoring
The lead changed nine times and the game was tied eight times Saturday night as the Cavaliers squeezed out their awesome win.
Game stats
A Mo Williams led Cavaliers grabbed 56 rebounds; 13 offensive ones and gave 13 turnovers. Williams himself had 23 points, 14 assists and the Cavaliers saw a game tying floater from him with just 3.7 seconds on the clock. On the other hand, New York Knicks
had 47 rebounds, six offensive ones and gave away a maddening number of 19 turnovers.
The Cavaliers took 26 fast break points and scored 46 points in the paint. The Knicks, on the other hand, took eight fast break points, and had just 30 points in the paint. Both the teams took the biggest lead with nine points.
Antawn Jamison scored 21 points and Anderson Varejao added 14 points and 17 rebounds to the Cavaliers box score. The Cavaliers grabbed eight team rebounds.
Raymond Felton scored in double figures for the New York Knicks. He scored 23 points and dished out 11 assists while Amare Stoudemire had the same number of points but he grabbed 11 rebounds. The Knicks grabbed 11 team rebounds.
Turning point
The Knicks called a timeout with just 3.9 seconds left in regulation and the game tied at 93 after Williams had his shot netted. Gallinari had the ball inbounded to Stoudemire who could not take in a 12 foot fade away jumper. The aftermath of this proved
to be fatal for the Knicks as the Cavaliers stole the lead to their benefit.
Confessions
“I thought we were depleted of energy most of the night. They ground it out and we didn’t… It was a test of character, and we failed the test today,” said a rather disappointed Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni.
Awesome!
Anthony Parker who plays guard for the Cavaliers scored 17 points in the second straight night.
Not up to the mark
Gallinari was not his usual self and was shooting 3 for 14 that included 1 for 10 on threes as he scored seven points for the Knicks.
Who was there inside the arena?
Walt Frazier was rather fun to watch as he appeared inside the arena to watch the game in a black suit and lime green boots. Wow!
Landry Fields who plays field guard for the Knicks had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals. He pinned a three pointer that gave the Knicks their very last lead of the night 93-91 with just 1:52 in regulation. However, that lead was short lived and merely
an illusion that did not last for long as it was snatched out of their hands by the Cavaliers.
Last move
Felton made a driving finger layup roll layup shot for the Knicks that improved them to 102-109.
Stats
The Knicks are in deep trouble as they have now lost three straight games after their eight-game winning streak.
