Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott positive about next season – NBA News
After their franchise player and leader LeBron James decided to move to the Miami Heat in 2010, the Cleveland Cavaliers slipped to the bottom of the Eastern Conference after ruling it for nearly five years. The Cavaliers were left
with a long and tiresome rebuilding process, and did not do well in the first season, when they nearly broke the record for most consecutive losses in American sports history.
But slowly and steadily, the Cavaliers are getting there.
Cleveland picked Kyrie Irving in the 2011 NBA Draft and he paid back the favour by winning the 2012 Rookie of the Year honour and helping his team improve from the past year. He is being tipped as the future franchise player of
the Cavaliers and the man around whom a new team in going to be built.
“The kid only had eleven games in college. He had 60 games in the pros, and he's developed into one of the better young point guards in this league, said Cleveland Head Coach Byron Scott while talking to Hoopsworld.com in Las Vegas
at the summer league.
Irving added to his list of achievements when he was selected as a member of the select team that scrimmaged with the U.S Olympic roster during training camp in Las Vegas. While there, Irving turned a few heads and received positive
comments from Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant and even LeBron James.
“People saw what he did with the Olympic team in some of those practices. He can be a very special player. We expect big things from Kyrie Irving, putting a lot of pressure on him to come out there and deliver, and that's only
from within,” added Scott about Irving.
Along with Irving, Scott has two new youngsters to mentor, coach and mould into future players of the franchise. They are the Cavaliers draft picks from this year, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller. Scott is excited about the opportunity
of coaching a new roster with young and energetic rookies, and is looking forward to putting Zeller and Cavs forward Tristan Thompson together in the front court next year.
Scott refused to comment of the trade rumours involving Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao, and instead focused on the roster at hand while looking forward to the next season, where he feels that Cavs will take their performances
to the next level.
The Cavaliers are a long haul from being the title contender they once were when LeBron James was a member of their roster, but they are gradually climbing the ladder to success. And they know it firsthand that teams which are
built the hard way tend to last longer as well.
