Cleveland Cavaliers host a charity event for Pediatric Cancer Research - NBA Update
The NBA lockout continues to linger on with no veritable end in sight. The first two weeks of the regular season have already been called off, the cancellation of the next two is on the cards, and the possibility of whole season
getting terminated is increasing with every passing day.
While the lockout has been the focus of attention off late and the most owners have laid their emphasis on the labour negotiations, Cleveland Cavaliers are making a healthy use of the extended lockout period.
The Cavaliers recently organized a fashion show at Quicken Loans Arena for a non-profitable organization “Flashes of hope” that is working on pediatric cancer research and provides free portfolios to children combating cancer.
The event was a success as more than thousand people showed and a substantial amount of money was raised. There were few prominent faces in the attendants as well. American Football team Cleveland Brown’s cornerback Joe Haden and
backup quarter back Seneca Wallace were amongst the VIP’s who walked the ramp with children agonized with cancer.
Allison was all praise for Cavaliers and credited the team for making this program such a mighty success. She added
"Once they got involved, it took it from zero to 100 pretty quickly,"
“Flashes of Hope” is the brainchild of Allison Clarke, who initiated the organization when her one and a half year old son was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, her son cured from the disease but her son’s friend died during
the treatment. This led her to come up with “Flashes of Hope”
"It started 10 years ago when after my son got cancer for the first time, and one of his friends at the hospital passed away," Clarke said. "I wondered if his mom had a photograph of him."
The first ever photo shoot punched the clock three weeks later that kid’s demise and since then “Flashes of Hope” is a success story. Operating in 55 cities throughout US, the organization has already raised more than $500,000
in two years.
The organization’s motive is to cheer up the families of the suffering as Allison says
"We go to the hospitals with amazing commercial photographers and stylists and they do these shoots that are like birthday parties for the kids, and then they give the families these wonderful packages”
