Cleveland Cavaliers land 4th overall pick in lottery – NBA Update
The lady luck didn’t smile on the Cleveland Cavaliers in this year’s lottery pick.
Despite winning a coin toss with New Orleans Hornets and having 13.8% chances at winning the lottery, they received the 4th overall pick.
They had a 3.5% chance last year but they ended up with the 1st overall pick and also got the fourth one. The Cavs were represented by their good luck charm Nick Gilbert, son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner while Kyrie
Irving and Browns players Joe Haden, Josh Cribbs, Bernie Kosar were also there to show their support.
New Orleans Hornets got the 1st overall pick while Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards won the 2nd and 3rd over all picks respectively.
Cavs finished the season with a 21-45 record, the 3rd worst record in the league coincidently they got in par with Hornets, who ran a similar record. Cavs won the coin flip to break that tie and got an extra combination
in the lottery.
However Cavs still have their cards in hand, as they are going to get the number 22 pick from Los Angeles Lakers in the 1st round and will also be getting the 34 pick from Hornets in the 2nd round.
They will not be able to pick Anthony Davis, the most desired centre form University of Kentucky, and he will be the 1st pick. It will be irrational to imagine Kidd-Gilchrist on Cavs bench, as Bobcats and Wizards will
not be making a pass on him.
Cleveland might be getting a shot on Thomas Robinson, he tallied 20 points and had 18 boards against Kentucky in the National Championship game and became the second best player after Anthony.
Cavs GM Chris Grant was hoping to get the top 4 picks, but now it seems he will have to restructure his strategy.
“Got four and four of the top 34 picks… Can’t wait to see who we pick.”
Cavs have the 24th, 33rd and 34th selections but it will be hard to imagine that they will be roping in 4 rookies next season. However they will have a lot of room to make trades.
The franchise owner Dan Gilbert was hopeful about the future;
"You want to play the odds, right? You want to win," Dan Gilbert said. "But who knew? Had we lost the coin flip, we would have had their numbers, and they would have had ours. Or if we had one more win. But you never know. It's
all going to turn out."
Cavs took power forward Tristan Thompson with the fourth pick last year will be hoping to get an even better player this time around.
