Cleveland Cavaliers outshine the Washington Wizards 100-93; finish the season with two straight wins
The quest of not ending up as the league’s worst team turned out to be a successful one for the Cleveland cavaliers as they defeated the Washington Wizards 100-93 at the Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday night. Despite of having
a very bad season, the fans at the arena supported the team massively in their last game of the 2010-2011 season.
Cleveland’s guard Daniel Gibson said after the game. "It shows what the city of Cleveland is all about. When it comes to supporting its team, there is no place that's better. They're always in our corner, regardless of how many
games we win or whatever. That's why we're going to play as hard as we will next season."
Ramon Session was the highlight of the night. The young guard landed a game-high 27 points to put the Cavs on the frontline. J.J. Hickson also clinched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds to carry the action for the
Cavaliers.
Andray Blatche racked up a team high 20 while Maurice Evans finished the night with 15 points for the visiting Wizards.
After wrapping up a comprehensive lead at the start of the game, the Washington failed to sustain the momentum in the last three quarters.
The Wizards headed out aggressively in the starting six minutes of the game and romped to an 18-10 run capped by Jordan Crawford’s thunderous dunk shot. Blatche carried the action for the visiting team and took the charge stoutly
as the Wizards ended the first quarter with an extensive 35-23 lead.
The Cavaliers retaliated back in the second quarter. The Cavs shored up their defence and on the offensive end, Hickson and Sessions joined to lift the momentum. The Cavs restricted the opposition to 15 points in the quarter.
Sessions came up with some successive blows just before the halftime and reduced the deficit to 50-47 as the game progressed into the first half.
Wizards grasped the court in the third quarter with a bang. John Wall surged with a blistering layup shot and then assisted Evans for a three as the Wizards amplified the advantage to 57-47. The Cavaliers however cooled of the
visitors quickly and they failed to score in the next five minutes. The home team took advantage and raced on to a 10-0 run, capped by a Hickson’s two point shot, which established a tie 57-57. However Blatche bounced back strongly and scored 11 points in
the last six minutes of the period as the Wizards entered the final quarter with 74-71 advantage.
The bench carried the momentum for the Cavaliers in the preliminary minutes of the fourth quarter and smashed them with 13-6 run to snatch the lead from the opposition. Session then launched a series of free throws as the Cleveland
Cavaliers sealed a magnificent 100-93 win.
