Cleveland Cavaliers plunge to their 25th straight loss – NBA Special (Part-1)
The sound of the final buzzer wouldn’t have sounded as bad for the Cavs as it did on Monday night against the Dallas Mavericks. The hands were on the heads, elbows out, in shame and disbelief. For some of the Cavs, the pained expressions
were a little too hard to hide while others found solace by covering their face in the towel stretched across the top of their heads.
The nightmare, which started for the Wine and Gold when they crashed to a 101-90 defeat against the Utah Jazz on December 20th, finally reached its climax on Monday night – a 99-96 loss against the Dallas Mavericks –
and the Cavs, fell to depths of futility, unseen thus far in the NBA.
A night after setting a single season losing record, the Cleveland Cavaliers lost their record 25th consecutive game — the most in league history no matter how it's counted.
When LeBron James decided to take his talents to the South Beach, the Cavs felt that their dream of winning the Championship went with him. Scorned and feeling betrayed at his departure, they vented reactions, ranging from the
burning of his jersey to a preposterous letter by the owner Dan Gilbert vying to win the championship before James did in Miami.
Little did he know that after only three months into the next season, his franchise will lose their way in the NBA record book for the worst losing streak ever. He is nowhere to be seen now. No proclamation, no boast, no vitriolic
retort – all the audacity and the virility appears to have vanished.
The fact is that the Cavs got so much embroiled in the LeBron James saga that they forgot to concentrate on the real job at hand. And once they got into the funk, they didn’t have much firepower or inspiration for that matter,
to pull them out.
Their injuries stricken roster didn’t help either. Already thin on the offense with LeBron gone, they lost Anderson Varejao, just 13 games into the season. Leon Powe and Mo Williams were the next to follow. In fact, the injury
problems have become so pronounced for the Cavs that LeBron James had found it hard to recognize most of the players.
