Cleveland Cavaliers plunge to their 25th straight loss – NBA Special (Part-2)
They however didn’t go down without a fight. Cleveland trailed by 10 with less than three minutes left on the clock, but refused to quit. Antawn Jamison, the man who has been fighting a lone offensive battle for the Cavs all season
long, cut the deficit to 97-94 with a timely 3-pointer. But, the 6ft-9in forward missed a potential game-tying trey in the next trip down the court.
Cavs still had a chance though.
With 2.9 seconds remaining, Anthony Parker's from 27-apart got an open look at the ring. He didn’t hesitate and let the ball fly. But, to his despair and to agony of thousands of the Cavs faithful his shot danced around the rim
but refused to fall.
"It was right on the money, right on line when I let it go," a devastated Parker after the game. "I got my feet into it, my legs into it, had a good look, thought it was going down. Even when it hit the front end of the rim, I
still thought it would hit the backboard and trickle in, but it didn't happen."
All said and done, the Cleveland Cavaliers still have a chance to redeem themselves and restore some long lost pride. Yes, they have churned out some of the most listless displays of basketball this season especially the 112-57
loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. But, while everybody seems to be putting emphasis on their poor record, it is should not be forgotten that have often played it hard during the losing skein.
It has not been as simple as to go out and simply blow a team out, just because they've got 20-something losses in a row. They've just had some bad luck down the wretched stretch. There were times when they competed, they competed
hard. It was just their luck and the poor execution at critical junctures that has often let them down.
In the month of February especially, the Cavs have been surging close. In the last four games, the loss margin never exceeded 7 points. Antawn Jamison for one is already casting his sights on the future.
"We're in the record books, we all know that, something we don't want to be a part of, but you can't go back and turn back the hands of time," forward Antawn Jamison said. "We've got to worry about moving forward. The most important
thing is getting a win."
