Cleveland Cavaliers request Enes Kanter for another workout: NBA Draft Update
Turkish basketball prodigy Enes Kanter has received good news just few days before the 2011 National Basketball Association Draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers have once again invited him for a workout in front of their owner Dan Gilbert
and the front office on Monday.
Kanter’s manger Max Ergul verified the news that the Cavs want to have another look at Kanter. Cleveland are showing lot of interest in him and speculations are rife that they might pick him through their No. 1 pick.
Kanter’s manager, Ergul said, “It wouldn’t be necessary for Enes to go again if he isn’t being considered for the top pick. Their word to me is good enough for him to return. They said they didn’t make a promise to anyone for No.
1.”
This is going to be Kanter’s last planned workout before the draft. Brandon Knight, who is the second highly rated point guard after Kyrie Irving, is also going to take part in Monday’s workout. If they pick Kanter at number one,
then Knight will, in all certainty be the number four pick and by running the combination in the pre draft drill, the Cavs perhaps wanted to be clear before taking the final decision.
The 6 ft 11in Kanter plays at centre position and big men with so much athleticism and shooting ability are fast becoming a rarity in the league. The last time Kanter took part in any basketball tournament was in 2010, when he
played in the Hoop Summit and shattered Dirk Nowitzki’s scoring record.
After that event, Kanter was going to participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament as a member of the Kentucky Wildcats, but NCAA declared him ineligible. The reason of his ineligibility was the payment
he got from the major club of Istanbul Fenerbahçe Ülker, which was about $33,000. According to NCAA, that amount was far ahead from the acceptable limit. Early this year when NCAA declined Kentucky’s appeal, Kanter decided to move into the 2011 NBA Draft.
In 2009, Kanter participated in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, as a member of the Turkish junior national squad and won the Most Valuable Player award. During that tournament, Kanter tallied an average of 18.6 points per
game and 16.4 rebounds. Kanter won the bronze medal in that run with the Turkish junior team.
Because of his astonishing performance with the junior squad, Kanter was also called for the senior Turkish national team, but he didn’t avail the opportunity. However, in the near future he plans to play for the senior Turkish
side.
Prior to this workout, Kanter also took part in the practice sessions with Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz.
