Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Kyrie Irving to miss action in the coming week - NBA Update
Cleveland Cavaliers have faced a major setback.
Their 19 year old Rookie Kyrie Irving, who is having an outstanding first season so far and has already guided the Cavs to a few important wins almost single handedly, will be missing at least two-three games next week.
Irving suffered a concussion in the game against Miami Heat when he his head struck Dwyane Wade's knee, while he was trying to drive inside the lane. Although it did not look too threatening initially; it has turned out to be a rather serious affair later. Irving suffered from severe headache in the training camp the next day and the Cavs decided not to take a chance.
Coach Byron Scott was disappointed with this unfortunate development and said that Irving is monitored on day-to-day basis.
"He's getting better but we are still going through NBA protocol," Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott told reporters after a team shoot-around on Friday. So he'll be out tonight, out tomorrow and we'll just go from there. The next possible game after that is Wednesday (against the Indiana Pacers) and we'll see how he heals. Right now, he's making improvement but we're not going to risk putting him out there until the doctors say he's fine."
Irving, the number one pick of the 2011 NBA draft, was selected by the Cavs with a hope that he will lift the team to heights it witnessed during the LeBron James era.
Irving’s debut was a horrible one in which he managed only 6 points on a poor 2 for 12 from the floor, however in the next games, he proved all the hype surrounding him is justified.
He has already produced eleven 20 plus tallies in the 23 games he has played so far and he is only going to improve with time. By next season, he will be a force to be reckoned with for sure. He is averaging 18 points and 5.1 assists per game at the moment and his shooting is pretty accurate as well.
The Cavs need to treat this young sharpshooter with extreme care because he probably is going to be the franchise’s face in the coming years. History tells us that injuries have destroyed many fruitful careers and no one, especially the Cavs, would want to lose this young talented guard to injuries.
