Cleveland Cavaliers should follow the footsteps of Dallas Mavericks: NBA Update
Instead of just taking swipes at LeBron James and his failures, the Cleveland Cavaliers and their owner Dan Gilbert should learn a lesson from the new champions of the league, Dallas Mavericks,
Earlier if a team losses National Basketball Association Finals its management immediately turns the roster upside down. However, Dallas Mavericks and its owner have set a new trend now. The Mavs lost the 2006 NBA finals against
the Miami Heat, if that would have happened with another franchise up till now they would have changed the roster more than twice, Mark Cuban and company didn’t do that.
The Mavs owner and management kept their star player Dirk Nowitzki and keep on gathering good supporting players around him to form a strong bunch of players. Eventually their efforts bear fruit when the Mavs routed the Heat in
the 2011 NBA Finals.
While other teams were looking to get their hands on star players or fresh talent from the draft, the Mavs went the other way, they got seven of eight players, who have more than 10 or more years of experience under their belt.
When the Mavs were just one victory away from the title, their General Manager and president of basketball operations, Donnie Nelson said, "What people call old, we call experienced. And just give me guys who have heart who want
to win.
"That’s why this moment is so special. We could be San Antonio the next three years — getting bounced in the first round. That’s why this series is getting the kind of attention it is. And I’ll tell you, those scars have been with
us the last five years. And only one thing can take those scars away."
The champions have proved that the title can be won without having big names in the roster, with an underestimated coach and with players who came from nowhere. When the 2010-11 regular season began no one thought that the Mavs
can make it into the playoffs, but when they did most of the NBA analyst slated them and said Dallas lack fire power and Portland Trail Blazers will throw them out of the contest easily.
However, the Mavs put a leash on their bashers when they defeated the Blazers 4-2 in the quarter-finals round and proved that they are here to stay. The Mavs then passed a strong statement when they swept the two time defending
champions 4-0 in the semi-finals.
The Mavs once again dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals and finished their title run by overcoming the LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Miami Heat in the finals.
The Cavaliers owner Gilbert is a deep pocketed man and if he follows the footsteps of Mark Cuban and company, he will definitely seek the title one day, because the departure of James didn’t end the world for them.
