Cleveland Cavaliers star Kyrie Irving eyeing a comeback: NBA Regular News
Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Kyrie Irving is raring to make a comeback.
Irving had suffered a concussion earlier last week after he banged his head with the knee of Dwyane Wade in the match against Miami Heat. He is now said to be on a fast track towards recovery.
It has been learnt that he had done some non contact work during a practice on Monday, and rumour has it that he will be back in the game as early as Wednesday. His team is optimistic about his participation in the upcoming match
against Indiana Pacers.
Following the new protocols induced by NBA regarding concussions Irving is yet to be cleared for the game. He will have to take a detailed medical examination, and once he is declared clear from all the repercussion associated
with concussion he can play.
"The hope is for him to get re-evaluated, then the doctors will tell us exactly where he stands and we'll go from there," Coach Byron Scott said. "I'm hoping I get him back Wednesday, but if not I'm also trying to prepare for the
worst."
The 19 years old No.1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft holds a cardinal position for the Cavs.
He is currently the highest scoring player amongst all of the rookies and also on the Cleveland roster; averaging 18 points per games along with 5.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds.
One of the shining moments this season for Irving came in the game against NBA World Champions Dallas Mavericks on 4th of February as he netted 20 and dished out 7 assists.
Ironically, it seems that fate is revisiting the Cavs this season. After wining just 19 games last season they ended up amongst the bottom teams in the league, mainly due to injuries.
They are down the same road this time as well.
Irving’s concussion was a serious setback for Cavs, but they recieved an equally drastic news on Friday, when centre Anderson Varejao fractured his wrist in the match against Milwaukee Bucks.
Varejao was having a perfect run this season, but now he will be out for an indefinite period and will surely be missing several upcoming games. The club is yet to give a conclusive timetable for his return, but it’s been confirmed
that his recovery will take several weeks.
It is not clear if he will be undergoing a surgery as this will be determined after undergoing series of medical tests.
That would be a big concern for Cleveland as Varejao is graded as one of NBA’s top rebounders and is considered a centrepiece of the Cavaliers.
With Irving and Varejao off the court, Cleveland have started to suffer already as on last Saturday they lost the game to visiting Philadelphia 76ers with a huge 99-84 deficit.
One can only hope that both players make a speedy recovery and get back on Cavs team, as without them their chances to survive are bleak.
