Cleveland Indians’ Asdrubal Cabrera named to Sporting News’ annual postseason All-Star team
The Cleveland Indians’ short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera is still making history after a terrific performance in the 2011 MLB season. His impressive performance was also acknowledged by many and now he earned another appreciation of his hard-work as he has named
to Sporting News’ annual post-season All-Star team.
This is itself an achievement as no other Indians’ short-stop has received similar honours since 1948. Many believe the way Cabrera played the last full season, it looked pretty obvious as he certainly will win many honours at the end of the year.
At the end of the 2011 season, Indians’ manager Manny Acta also appreciated Cabrera’s tremendous efforts and commented in detail regarding his consistent and reliable performance.
Acta said, “He's on his way, That's a big way to show your teammates how much you care, We challenged him, and he stepped up, This year he not only led by example, he was vocal at times, the fact that he was able to go out there and play when he was injured.”
Many reporters also asked Cabrera for his favourite accomplishment this past season.
Cabrera confidently said, “Being on the field every day, this was a year I wanted to play a lot of games. I'm really excited that I was able to do that. I'm really happy for my numbers.”
Asdrubal, who started the season with full confidence, accomplished very good stats. He led the field in a career-high 151 games and placed a personal best in at-bats (604) and plate appearances (667). He was tremendous all season long and also honoured
with career high marks in home-runs, RBIs (92), runs scored (87), hits (165), total on bases (278) and slugging percentage (.460).
In the 2011 MLB season alone, Cabrera led all the American League short-stops in RBIs and was tied for the lead in hits. He was ranked second amongst his AL team-mates in runs, doubles (32) and home-runs. His total AL 25 homers were regarded as best for
a particular single-season which was set by Jhonny Peralta (24) in 2005.
