Cleveland Indians’ Grady Sizemore injures knee – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ Grady Sizemore received an injury to his right knee and left the game in the first inning of the final competition against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on July 17.
Despite an unknown condition of the injury, the team management has decided to take the centre-fielder to Minneapolis to take on Minnesota Twins in day-night double-header. There he will also be examined for further problem. However, looking at his current
situation, experts believe him a candidate of 15-day disabled list.
The injury occurred in the first inning of the game, when Sizemore was trying to reach second base after making a double. The 28-year-old received a twist in his right knee, the same kind of injury with which he was sent to day-to-day in May. However, the
team trainer has not announced the severity of his current injury – regardless of his left knee problem that sent him on disabled list much of last year.
"It's not the surgically-repaired knee," the Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "He had a quick turnaround first base and it hurt him a little bit, so we took him out of the game. He's going to be examined Monday and we'll know more about it."
After leaving the field, Sizemore did some quick running exercise with team trainer under the shallow field, but he did not feel comfortable to return in the game. Pinch-runner Ezequiel Carrera replaced him.
After he left, Travis Hafner and Carlos Santana both launched ballistic homers while Travis Buck scored an RBI single to accumulate 3-0 lead. However, the Orioles snatched the game to their side and blistered eight runs until the eight innings, holding the
Indians to just three, to grab a win. Indians received many chances to score but they failed to avail any of them.
"When you score early, and give your starting pitcher some breathing room, you think you're going to score more," said Hafner. "We just left too many people on base."
Sizemore has made 32 runs, 55 hits including 21 doubles, one double and 10 home-runs over 232 at-bats in 61 games. He is also one of the major versatile players of the Indians, as he has played at pinch hitter, designated hitter, and centre-fielder position
in the 2011 season. He has over .400 averages in past six games with two doubles, two homers and four RBIs.
His 2011 year was started on the disabled list, as he was in rehabilitation period of the micro fracture surgery on his left knee. After 10-month rehab, he started his season on April 17, against the same opponents. In May, he went to disabled list and missed
13 games.
