Cleveland Indians’ Grady Sizemore undergoes surgery, expected to return soon – MLB News
Dr. William Meyers is said to have performed a 20 minute abdominal surgery on the Cleveland Indians’ Grady Sizemore. Given the fact that he had to leave the Baltimore Orioles’ game on Sunday after a right knee injury, things did not seem particularly well.
Having once got consigned to the disabled-list in May, this will take Sizemore for another few days in the disabled-list.
"The injury which resulted in today's surgery has been bothering me since the slide in May. Knowing the two areas are related and also learning my knee condition is not serious gives me peace of mind going forward that I can finish the season healthy and
help contribute to an exciting pennant chase."
Sizemore has had a history of having injuries that have taken him out for long. Last year, during the regular season, he has to undergo a micro-fracture surgery on his left knee that kept him away from baseball for a considerably long period of time.
However, his trainer struck a positive note on the same day when it was being suggested that Sizemore might have to go for a longer period of time than initially expected.
"His prognosis is good," team trainer Lonnie Soloff said. "We are cautiously optimistic that he will return to full baseball activities in four to six weeks. He should walk as much as a mile starting (today)."
Being one of the oldest players out there representing the Cleveland Indians, he has also played fascinating plays as centre-fielder and was chosen for the All-Star Game as a reserve out-fielder in 2006.
Ever since the start of the 2011 regular season, Sizemore has played 61 games having remained 232 at-bats. Having scored 32 runs with his 55 hits which include 10 home-runs as well with 29 RBIs, Sizemore holds an average of 2.37 with .304 OB and .466 SLG.
Coming in the professional baseball circuit in 2004, he has so far played 882 games with 3491 at-bats, having scored 599 runs and 943 hits with 139 home-runs to his credit. With 455 RBIs, Sizemore has a .359 OBP with .270 average and a .476 SLG.
Sizemore had sustained abdominal issues in May and was subsequently sent to the disabled list. With his knee having some problem, he made progress during this time and decided to play which he was formally allowed to do so, only at his own expense.
Now that there are hopes that Sizemore may come sooner than later with the diagnosis right and prognosis effectively suggested, it remains interesting to see how he performs considering the fact that he has seen the disabled list a lot of times due to one
injury or another.
