Cleveland Indians’ Jason Kipnis looking upbeat ahead of next season – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ second baseman Jason Kipnis is sitting pretty comfortable in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training. He is currently busy in Arizona with rest of the Indians’ roster and showing some great level of temperament. Kipnis is determined to play his first full Major League season in this year after joining the team in last July from the Indians farm system Minor League.
First drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2008, the Indians then drafted him in 2009 Major League draft. The Indians top management and some senior scouts saw huge potential in Kipnis’ game as they immediately sent him to their Minor League for further perfection.
Kipnis, who under the great guidance of Indians’ experienced coaches, spent some two years in their Minor League showing them the true level of commitment and force in his game before making a Major League debut at middle of the last season.
Last year, when the Indians called him to the Majors, he played some good and spirited games and achieved .272 hitting average, along with seven home runs, 19 RBIs and .333 OBP. Though these are not good stats for a player like Kipnis’ calibre, but still many baseball experts appreciated his well crafted performance.
Now since beginning of this Spring Training, Kipnis is feeling excited for the next season. He has recently explained in the media in relation to perform well in the coming event.
Kipnis said, “I’m not as worried about making the team this spring as I am about preparing for the season, but I don’t consider myself the starter until I see it on the [lineup] card Opening Day. The speed of the game was the biggest thing, after you get that first hit and a few more, you start to feel comfortable, and after awhile the game slows down. I mean it is the same game. Especially when you get off to a slow start like me, you start thinking, ‘Am I ever going to get a hit.”
According to his above statement, experts have extracted that Kipnis is looking determined and if his preparations continued, he will soon be regarded as one of the best role players in the entire Indians roster.
