Cleveland Indians’ Justin Masterson undergoes surgery on left shoulder – MLB News
On Wednesday night, the Cleveland Indians’ right-hander pitcher Justin Masterson endured an arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder to repair a posterior tear in the labrum. According to the Indians, the surgery was performed by Dr. Craig Morgan in Wilmington,
Delaware, who later showed his full optimism on his early recovery.
Despite this critical surgery, Masterson is expected to start next season on time and most likely to attend spring training session in February 2012. His expected return to the field was also supported by the Indians management when they issued a small statement
regarding Masterson and his probable early recovery as he is “expected to be without restrictions” before April 5.
The Cleveland Indians’ general manger Chris Antonetti also commented on Masterson’s recent condition via e-mail which clearly suggests how important Masterson is for the Indians in the next MLB season. According to his e-mail, “We don't anticipate it affecting
him in 2012."
Justin Masterson just had very impressive season and finished with a record of 12-10 and a 3.21 ERA in a total of 33 starts and 216 innings. His consistent performance in the 2010-11 MLB regular season was acknowledged by many baseball experts.
Drafted by the Boston Red Sox, Justin Masterson made his Major League Baseball debut in 2008 and joined the Indians in 2009. Since joining Cleveland, Masterson has emerged as one of the top starters for them. His consistent performance in the first month
of the 2011 MLB regular season earned him a 5-0 record.
Later on Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians also made another announcement regarding their three players Fausto Carmona, Rafael Perez and Ubaldo Jimenez as they will be heading to Dominican Winter League for a full winter season. Carmona will be playing for
Aguilas and Jimenez has signed with Licey and Perez will play for Cibao.
