Cleveland Indians’ Manager Manny Acta comments on recent loss to Texas Rangers – MLB News
Cleveland Indians were not in the brightest of moods on Thursday, September 15 when they lost to the Texas Rangers 4-7 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The manager, Manny Acta, had been in the spotlight all season for guiding his team to first place in
the American League, earlier. Unfortunately, things changed and the club went down to second place when the Detroit Tigers clinched the first spot.
However now things have further changed and the Indians are currently third in their division. Manny Acta talked about the situation yesterday and he summed it up well.
"All you can think is you failed to achieve your goal, which is to win the division," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "You play to win the division. So you get your head up, play for second place or above .500."
The coach had furthered said that at times like these the club has to shift gears and head towards another goal.
The Indians have been on the losing end for the past three games against the Rangers and they are now 1-9 against the American League West leaders. The Indians played Fausto Carmona on the mound on Thursday and he allowed six runs in six innings. Plainly
said, the Rangers surpassed the Indians by a wide margin. Manny Acta knows that fact well.
"They overmatched us," Acta said. "Other than that series we had over here, when we had a chance to win the series, we were in every game, they just kind of outplayed us the whole time."
The skipper had a few words for his pitcher who joined David Huff and Justin Masterson on the losing end in three successive games. He felt that Carmona struggled throughout his pitching and that his fastball was not effective, as he managed to walk five
players.
The Indians may not be going anywhere this season but they did however make a defiant statement in the league. They worked up to third place after being the last team in the American League Central. At least that counts for something, if not anything else.
