Cleveland Indians’ Manny Acta discusses team performance after 4-10 defeat to Texas Rangers
Cleveland Indians’ manager Manny Acta was available after the 4-10 defeat to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, September 13 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, to talk about his team and some of the problems faced in the encounter.
Acta talked about Justin Masterson’s display on the mound. The hurler was smashed for three homers in the night and two of his first came from David Murphy. His third one went against 2010 American League Most Valuable Player, Josh Hamilton. Pitching to
a left hander was one of the biggest challenges he faced on the mound. The Texas out-fielder made short work of the pitcher with a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
"He missed out over the plate a little bit," Acta said. "Usually, he struggles against lefties when he can't get the ball in there to them. When you fall behind to Hamilton, you have to throw the ball over the plate, and that's not a very good thing to do."
Masterson would go on to concede six runs by the bottom of the sixth. The hurler was replaced in the sixth with Nick Hagadone on a bases loaded situation. He was unable to stop the club from scoring as he allowed two unearned runs from Murphy and Mike Napoli
to go through. Hagadone was switched with Josh Judy and he too allowed two unearned runs.
By the end of the inning, the Rangers were in a comfortable 8-3 lead.
"We had a rough time putting up zeroes tonight on the board," Acta said.
The skipper stated that if the opposition is able to score from five tries out of eight, then that can cause a lot of trouble for you.
Acta sent in newly promoted Major Leaguer, Zach Putnam, in the seventh inning but the player was in for a rude awakening as Adrian Beltre smashed him out of the park with a home-run.
In all the chaos that fell around the skipper, the one positive thing to note down was Carlos Santana. The Indians’ catcher was defiant in his stance as he scored three runs for his team. Two of them came with homers. Acta was pleased with his contribution
from the strike zone.
Acta was disappointed by the team performance as the Rangers dominated the game in all aspects. The Indians’ were unable to contain the powerful Rangers’ offence as the runs were piled on. It will be interesting to see how the Indians will manage to recover
from this humiliating loss and put in a better effort in their next match-up. It seems that Acta has his work cut out for him to try and rebuild some confidence in the team.
