Cleveland Indians: Regular season results – MLB April 2011
Having achieved reasonable results in the Spring Training season, Cleveland Indians were hoping for a strong start to their regular season campaign as well. Although the Indians lost the opening two games of a three match series against the White Sox, they
ended the series on a pretty high note as they thrashed the Chicago 7-1 in final game of the series.
Justin Masterson helped his side to get things back on track. Pitching seven solid innings, he restricted the opposition to a fairly small total. In the batting department, Orlando Cabrera hit a two run homer in the sixth inning.
"As usual, it was about pitching," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "Justin did a tremendous job. He threw 17 out of 29 first-pitch strikes and got a lot of guys to put that sinker on the ground."
Raising the level of their game-play, the Indians were absolutely unstoppable in a three match series against Boston Red Sox. Emerging victorious in all three encounters, they created all sorts of problems for their rivals in both hitting and pitching departments.
Executing their game plan to perfection, they surprised the Red Sox with some high quality baseball throughout the series.
In game three, the pitchers once more allowed the Indians to establish complete control over the contest. Indians squeezed home the only run in eight innings to complete a successful series against one of the best baseball clubs in the Majors. Team manager,
Manny Acta was delighted with the way things went for him and his men in all three games and he aimed to continue their excellent run in future fixtures as well.
"We did beat a very good ballclub -- regardless if they're struggling or not," manager Manny Acta said. "We won and it was a very well-played series."
Indians had another memorable series against the Seattle Mariners as they won each game to improve their regular season win-loss record to 7-9. It will not be wrong to say that Mariners were outplayed in all aspects of the game by a better side. After securing
eight consecutive wins, the Indians finally lost a series against Los Angeles Angels.
However, they came back even stronger against the Baltimore Orioles to win the three match series 3-0. The Indians continued to give incredible performances and they ended the month of April with victories over Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers. The
Indians were gaining in confidence after their successful performance during April.
Teams around the league were beginning to take notice of the talented Indians side as they managed to play some tremendous baseball in the opening month of the regular season. The Indians were looking to carry their winning momentum into the next month and
dominate their division.
