Cleveland Indians: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
After losing their way in the previous month, the Cleveland Indians were looking to get things back on track with consistent performances in the month of July. Restoring some of their lost pride, Manny Acta and his men executed their game plan quite brilliantly
in a three match series against Cincinnati Reds to earn their first series victory of the month.
The Indians hit three home-runs in game one of the series to establish complete control over the contest. Grady Sizemore and Bronson Arroyo all joined the party to let their side secure their fourth consecutive win over the Reds. Hammering the struggling
Reds in game two as well, the Indians claimed a much needed series victory, which also improved their win to loss record to 44-38.
Commenting on Sizemore’s performance, Manager Manny Acta said, "He understood. The pitching coach and myself let him know he was pitching great, but it's a team effort and he can't control what we did offensively."
The Indians were thrashed 0-4 by New York Yankees in the month of June. However, Manny Acta’s side raised the level of their game play in their next three match series against the Yankees to secure their second victory of the month.
The hitters did a marvellous job to score nine runs in the first game and the pitchers contained the Yankees’ hitting department to give the Indians a 1-0 lead in the series. Justin Masterson shut down the Yankees with eight scoreless innings. Although the
Indians lost the second game, they bounced back brilliantly in the third and final game to keep their qualifying hopes alive.
The Indians had a disappointing series against the Toronto Blue Jays, losing three out of four games. Unable to handle the pressure, Manny Acta’s side made a large number of unforced errors throughout the series, which of course made their opponent’s job
a lot easier.
Despite securing a victory in the opening game, the Indians failed to play their best in the following three games to let their rivals complete a crushing 3-1 series victory. The Indians had reasonable series’ against Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins
as they managed to level the series with both teams. Twice, the Indians had a 2-0 lead, which they surrendered to let their opponents came back into the contest. Losing the series against Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals, they ended
the season on a poor note, which damaged their win-loss record to 53-52.
The Indians struggled in July, as the team looked to have just run out of steam and lacked any confidence in their series. Cleveland will be looking to put in a better performance in their next match-up.
