Cleveland Indians: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
Cleveland Indians had a successful run during the month of August 2011 and they were looking to maintain their form in September 2011 as well to qualify for the post-season. Making a bright start to a three match series against Kansas City Royals, the Indians
looked on course to end the season on a positive note.
Defeating the Royals 5-4 in a nail biting encounter in game one of the series, Manny Acta and his men looked on top of their game as they took a 1-0 lead in the series. Although they were outplayed in the following game by the Royals, the Indians came back
strongly 9-6 in third and final game to wrap up a sensational series victory. Their consistent performances let them improve their win-loss record to 70-67.
Shelly Duncan did a marvellous job with the bat as he hit two home-runs to give his side a crucial lead in the final game against the Royals. A wonderful three run home-run from Duncan in the sixth innings took the game completely away from the opposition
team.
"You want to go into that series with a positive outcome here," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "If we don't take advantage of this series, you can't be looking at the last three games of the season (also against Detroit), because you might not be there."
Indians were looking to achieve similar results in a three match series against Detroit Tigers as well. However, as it turned out, they failed to win even a single game, which damaged their win-loss record considerably. In game two of the series, the Indians
were outplayed in almost all departments of the game as they experienced a humiliating 10-1 defeat in front of a packed house.
Manny Acta and his men had a disappointing start to their next series against Chicago White Sox as well as they were thrashed 8-1 in the opening game of a four match series. Handling the pressure brilliantly, the Indians managed to level the series 2-all
in the final game to restore some of their lost pride. The AL Central team raised their game to a higher level to clinch only their second series victory of the month after they crushed Minnesota Twins 3-1 in a four match series.
"You don't see that very often," Indians manager Manny Acta praised the efforts of his men. "Those two kids (Hagadone and Zach Putnam) did a good job, our offense stepped up and Shelly continues to be a huge factor for us this month."
The Indians had a decent performance during the month, as they managed to battle it out with some of the league’s top clubs. The team remained focused on one thing, a lucrative spot in the post-season.
