Cleveland Indians’ Tony Sipp helps San Francisco Giants in 1-0 shut-out: MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians’ reliever, Tony Sipp, gave a game-defeating display as the Club fell one run short in their second-straight defeat, this time by 1-0 against the defending World Series champions, San Francisco Giants, at the AT&T park, on Saturday night,
June 25.
The game was score-less until Tony Sipp relieved his starter, Justin Masterson, and allowed a walk to Andre Torres before allowing one run in the game up the middle of the seventh inning. Having ball in his right hand, the left-handed pitcher, Tony, was
leaning forward and making Torres wait too long when home plate Umpire, Bob Davidson, declared it a balk.
Tony was a little confused from the balk, but he had already committed the same move. He was not ready to accept it as an intentional delay.
Sipp said, "It was just a mental lapse. Went up for the set, did not see the sign that I had in mind. I was supposed to stay set until I actually got a sign that I liked but I started moving too early and paused. Put my hand up a little bit and was going
to try to keep going with my hands and just step off, but by that time they had already caught it."
However, this has railed the Indians to another possible series loss after they had received 2-0 series loss against the Colorado Rockies. It also caused the sixth loss to starter, Masterson, who otherwise was unplayable over his six and 2/3 innings, in
which he allowed just four scoreless hit, two walks and made five strikeouts.
The Giants’ starter, Matt Cain, did not consume any run, allowed four hits, one walk and struck-out six batters over seven inning in his seventh win of the series after sixteen starts. His reliever, Javier Lopez, and closer, Brian Wilson, each remained scoreless.
It is the fourth consecutive game, which these two pitchers managed to save for their club.
Lopez gained his 13th hold, while Wilson saved his 23rd outing in 2011.
"We've had some weird ways to win," said Brian Wilson. "That one's definitely up there."
The Indians’ closer, Vinnie Pestano, too tossed score-less inning, but until now the Giants has confirmed their 43rd win. Now the Giants are one of the top winning teams in Major's, after Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.
